1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 647 1-3 WHEREAS, College Station's Bill Erwin has been named the 1-4 1999 Lone Star Achievement Award winner, and this noteworthy 1-5 individual is indeed deserving of special legislative recognition 1-6 for this accomplishment and for his legacy of community service; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, A resident of the Bryan-College Station area since 1-9 1967, Mr. Erwin is a graduate of Austin College and enjoyed a 1-10 fulfilling 35-year career with GTE that ended with his retirement 1-11 in 1996; his employment included positions ranging from salesman 1-12 to communications consultant to customer service manager, and 1-13 ultimately to his role as public affairs manager; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Despite the demands of his job, Mr. Erwin long 1-15 ago established himself as a vital member of his community 1-16 through his participation in numerous charitable and civic-minded 1-17 organizations and associations, including the United Way of 1-18 Brazos County, the Saint Joseph Foundation of Bryan, the 1-19 Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce, and the Better Business 1-20 Bureau of Brazos Valley, Incorporated, all of which he served in 1-21 leadership roles; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Erwin's community service record runs the gamut 1-23 from health-related issues to business concerns, with additional 1-24 support provided to local media and fine arts organizations; he 2-1 has served as a board or committee member of the American Heart 2-2 Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes 2-3 Association, and the Arts Council of Brazos Valley, as well as 2-4 many other fine groups; and 2-5 WHEREAS, This esteemed individual is the recipient of 2-6 numerous awards and accolades, such as the Bryan-College Station 2-7 Jaycees' 1971 Outstanding Young Man of Brazos County award, the 2-8 Boys Club's 1988 Man of the Year award, and the Bryan-College Station 2-9 Chamber of Commerce's 1991 Volunteer of the Year award; he has 2-10 received much love and support in his endeavors from his wife, 2-11 Barbara, and from his children, Karen, David, and Amy, and he has 2-12 been blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, Jay Gillespie and 2-13 David Andrew Erwin; and 2-14 WHEREAS, The need for leadership in our communities cannot 2-15 be overstated, and Bill Erwin has truly been a role model in this 2-16 regard; his integrity and commitment to his fellow citizens are 2-17 most admirable, and his positive example is an inspiration to 2-18 all who know this fine man; now, therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Bill Erwin on his receipt 2-21 of the 1999 Lone Star Achievement Award and commend him for his 2-22 many years of dedicated community service; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-24 prepared for Mr. Erwin as an expression of high regard from the 2-25 Texas Senate. 2-26 Ogden 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 President of the Senate 3-3 I hereby certify that the above 3-4 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-5 on April 14, 1999. 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 Secretary of the Senate 3-8 ______________________________________ 3-9 Member, Texas Senate
