1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 651 1-3 WHEREAS, Texans are proud of their water resources; they 1-4 delight in their beautiful lakes, rivers, and springs; they 1-5 welcome rain, which nourishes their crops and replenishes their 1-6 water table; Texans depend on water for a variety of purposes, 1-7 both practical and recreational; therefore, the Senate commends 1-8 the statewide celebration of water, "Water Time in '99," and its 1-9 campaign to promote awareness and conservancy of this most 1-10 precious state resource; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Recent droughts have reminded Texans that our water 1-12 supply should not be used frivolously; rather, water use in Texas 1-13 must be well-managed by citizens who appreciate this resource's 1-14 importance; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The Texas Water Foundation was established in 1-16 1998 as a statewide, nonprofit organization to increase public 1-17 awareness among all Texans about the state's water supplies; the 1-18 organization's goals are to teach the importance of protecting, 1-19 conserving, and enhancing these resources for future generations; 1-20 this grassroots organization has organized a "Water Time" 1-21 observance in Texas which will encourage local communities to 1-22 sponsor water-related educational activities and celebrations; and 1-23 WHEREAS, All "Water Time" festivities will be listed in a 1-24 statewide calendar for distribution in Texas; to increase the 2-1 public's knowledge of water-related issues and facts, a separate 2-2 educational insert will be distributed with the calendar; the 2-3 Texas Water Foundation plans to launch an educational website and 2-4 to sponsor an Internet field trip for Texas schoolchildren, both of 2-5 which will focus on water-related facts and fun; finally, to 2-6 generate public awareness for its cause, the foundation plans to 2-7 work through regional planning groups; and 2-8 WHEREAS, The "Water Time in '99" campaign's purpose of 2-9 promoting and preserving our beautiful Texas water resources 2-10 through education and celebration are truly noble; now, therefore, 2-11 be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 76th Legislature, hereby recognize the "Water Time in '99" campaign 2-14 and commend its organizers' impressive efforts; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 2-16 expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-17 Brown 2-18 Armbrister Harris Ogden 2-19 Barrientos Haywood Ratliff 2-20 Bernsen Jackson Shapiro 2-21 Bivins Lindsay Shapleigh 2-22 Cain Lucio Sibley 2-23 Carona Luna Truan 2-24 Duncan Madla Wentworth 2-25 Ellis Moncrief West 2-26 Fraser Nelson Whitmire 2-27 Gallegos Nixon Zaffirini 2-28 Perry, President of the Senate 2-29 ______________________________________ 2-30 President of the Senate 2-31 I hereby certify that the above 2-32 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-33 on April 15, 1999. 2-34 ______________________________________ 2-35 Secretary of the Senate 2-36 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
