 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 653
 1-3           WHEREAS, Texas has traditionally produced exceptional women
 1-4     of character and accomplishment who have served their state and
 1-5     nation far beyond the reach of ordinary women and, for this, the
 1-6     Texas Senate and the citizens of El Paso take great pleasure in
 1-7     recognizing Beatrice "Bitty" Gladstone; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mrs. Gladstone is an exemplary Texan who has spent
 1-9     her entire life serving the citizens of her community, state, and
1-10     nation; and
1-11           WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, she is one of two children born
1-12     to Bernard Marcus and Nettie Fisler Marcus; Bitty earned a
1-13     bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern Methodist University
1-14     in 1953 and shortly thereafter married Dr. Larry Gladstone; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Bitty is known for her hard work and dedication to
1-16     excellence, and the breadth of her involvement is endless; she
1-17     received the Hannah G. Solomon community service award from the
1-18     National Council of Jewish Women, the City of El Paso Conquistador
1-19     award, the United Way Volunteer of the Year award, Rotary's "The
1-20     Distinguished Service Award", and the League of United Latin
1-21     American Citizen's Humanitarian Award; and
1-22           WHEREAS, While working for the National Council of Jewish
1-23     Women she received the General James H. Polk Award, and she
1-24     helped found the Visiting Nurses Association; Bitty is an Honorary
 2-1     Life Member of the Volunteer Bureau, which bestowed upon her the
 2-2     Volunteer Recognition Award; Honorary Chairman of the Community
 2-3     Health Fair, she was named the first Lady of Beta Sigma Phi of
 2-4     El Paso; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Her ability to achieve excellence in all her
 2-6     endeavors has been demonstrated throughout her life; she spread
 2-7     her energies in whichever direction she saw a need as in serving
 2-8     as Chair of the Circle of Hope Hospice, starting the Child
 2-9     Treatment Center in cooperation with the Mental Health Association,
2-10     and serving as president of the Medical Alliance; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Throughout all of these years of devoting herself
2-12     to the betterment of others, Mrs. Gladstone still makes time for
2-13     her beloved husband of 46 years; she is a devoted mother to three
2-14     daughters and a proud grandmother of two granddaughters; now,
2-15     therefore, be it
2-16           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-17     76th Legislature, hereby commend Mrs. Beatrice Gladstone for her
2-18     selfless dedication; and, be it further
2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this
2-20     exemplary role model as an expression of the gratitude and high
2-21     regard of the Texas Senate.
