1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 654 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Lenora V. Hudson Bell 1-5 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the City of El Paso in 1-6 mourning the loss of one of its most extraordinary and esteemed 1-7 citizens, Lenora V. Hudson Bell, who died February 27, 1999, at 1-8 the age of 79; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Beloved by her family, Mrs. Bell will be remembered 1-10 for the many kindnesses she extended to her friends, her community, 1-11 and her church; she touched countless lives and for that she will 1-12 be dearly missed; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Born in Pittsburg, Texas, in 1919, she refused to 1-14 see the world through rose-colored glasses; inequities were far 1-15 and wide and she and her husband, Tommie Lee, chose to try and 1-16 right the wrongs they witnessed; as supporters of the civil rights 1-17 movement from its onset, they worked hard for equality and justice; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, A woman who was born to know no bounds, she was 1-20 devoted to helping others all of her life; she worked tirelessly 1-21 for the United Methodist Church; each year she hosted "Green Teas" 1-22 to help fund scholarships for the youth of El Paso, and for all her 1-23 endeavors was given the Huston-Tillotson College Award; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Lenora touched many other facets of her community 2-1 by being a member of the board of the American Freedom from Hunger 2-2 Foundation; she was a charter board member of the Newark Maternity 2-3 Hospital and of the Armed Services YMCA-USO; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-6 family and friends of Lenora V. Hudson Bell, a woman who showed 2-7 an exemplary devotion to helping her fellowman; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-9 members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-10 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 2-11 in memory of Lenora V.
