1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 657
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased and
 1-3     proud to pay tribute today to Franklin Truitt Lively on the
 1-4     joyous occasion of his 71st birthday on April 16, 1999; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born on April 16, 1928, Franklin graduated from
 1-6     The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in
 1-7     in journalism; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Lively married his beloved wife of 45 years,
 1-9     Sarah, and together they established a warm and loving family for
1-10     their two children, Lynne Lively and Lance Lively; the two
1-11     children have presented their parents with three grandchildren,
1-12     Hadley Lively Anderson, Cole Welsome, and Gabriel Lively; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. Lively worked for the Agricultural Commission
1-14     and the Long News Service before he accepted a position with the
1-15     Texas Highway Department in 1961; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Successful in his work, he took over the Highway
1-17     Department's office newsletter which contained information about
1-18     employee activities, maintenance, construction, and design; and
1-19           WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Lively suggested to the division
1-20     director that a travel magazine for the State of Texas be created;
1-21     in 1974, the first issue of Texas Highways was published; and
1-22           WHEREAS, In 1975, the Texas Legislature passed a resolution
1-23     declaring Texas Highways the official travel magazine of
1-24     Texas; the periodical shows many of the most beautiful sights in
 2-1     Texas; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Mr. Lively is a man of integrity and vision, and
 2-3     his contributions to the State of Texas during his 71 years have
 2-4     been considerable; it is appropriate that the Texas Senate salute
 2-5     him on his 71st birthday; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Franklin Truitt Lively on
 2-8     the occasion of his 71st birthday; and, be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-10     Mr. Lively as an expression of the highest regard of the
2-11     Texas Senate.
