1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 659
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-3     of Round Top in celebrating the dedication of their new post office
 1-4     on April 24, 1999; the people's efforts to preserve their distinctive
 1-5     past in this, their newest post office, bespeak the love and pride
 1-6     they have for their town; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Round Top is nestled halfway between Houston and
 1-8     Austin, and its citizens enjoy a tranquil haven away from the rigors
 1-9     of big-city life; the community has abundant civic pride and strives
1-10     to create a charming environment; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Round Top honors its German roots and ardently
1-12     desires to reflect this heritage in its present-day community; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The first Round Top Post Office was dedicated in
1-14     1968, and, in accordance with the citizens' wishes, this edifice
1-15     mirrored the community's past while performing current practical
1-16     needs; and
1-17           WHEREAS, When citizens found the plans for their new post
1-18     office unappealing and not reflective of their town's history, they
1-19     resolved to change them; undaunted by the postal bureaucracy, they
1-20     managed to secure an aesthetically appealing structure which
1-21     reflected their cultural pride; and
1-22           WHEREAS, The new Round Top Post Office is indeed a lovely
1-23     addition to an already picturesque community; with requisite German
1-24     flair, the structure boasts an exterior of native limestone and a
 2-1     porch which encircles three sides of the building; isolated "STARS"
 2-2     set in limestone, ornament the building's front facade; native live
 2-3     oaks grace the lawn, while antique roses complete the landscape; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, The new Round Top Post Office is a successful addition
 2-5     to its community; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the citizens of Round Top on
 2-8     the dedication of their beautiful new post office; and, be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-10     expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
