1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 663 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in 1-4 recognizing Betty Hardwick of Baird on her outstanding work as an 1-5 advocate for Texans with mental disabilities; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Well known for her tireless efforts on behalf of the 1-7 mentally disabled, Betty Hardwick was appointed to the Board of 1-8 Trustees of the Abilene Regional Mental Health-Mental Retardation 1-9 Center in 1982 and was elected community director for Region VI of 1-10 the National Community Mental Healthcare Board of Directors in 1-11 1996; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A dedicated and active volunteer, Betty Hardwick 1-13 has been named Outstanding Young Woman in America, has won the 1-14 Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service, and 1-15 has been recognized by the Texas Council of Community MHMR Centers 1-16 for her leadership in establishing the council's Risk Management 1-17 Fund; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hardwick's interest in public health issues 1-19 stems from her firsthand knowledge of the difficulties encountered 1-20 by those with disabilities as several members of her family have 1-21 been affected by a genetic visual impairment; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Betty Hardwick has worked closely with members of 1-23 the Texas Legislature and various committees to strengthen 1-24 community mental health care centers; she currently serves on the 2-1 Joint Contract Committee of the Texas Department of Mental Health 2-2 and Mental Retardation and is devoting much of her time to improving 2-3 the contracting process; and 2-4 WHEREAS, In addition to spending many hours working on behalf 2-5 of the mentally disabled, Betty is also a homemaker and is devoted 2-6 to her family; she and her husband, Jon Hardwick, have been blessed 2-7 with two daughters, Crecia and Lydia; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Betty Hardwick is an exemplary lady who has played a 2-9 major role in improving the lives of our state's mentally disabled 2-10 citizens, and her perseverance and many accomplishments are 2-11 inspirational to all who work in the field of mental health; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 76th Legislature, hereby commend Betty Hardwick on her 2-15 exceptional achievements and many contributions to the citizens 2-16 of our state and extend best wishes to her for the future; and, 2-17 be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-19 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-20 Fraser 2-21 Armbrister Harris Ogden 2-22 Barrientos Haywood Ratliff 2-23 Bernsen Jackson Shapiro 2-24 Bivins Lindsay Shapleigh 2-25 Brown Lucio Sibley 2-26 Cain Luna Truan 2-27 Carona Madla Wentworth 2-28 Duncan Moncrief West 2-29 Ellis Nelson Whitmire 2-30 Gallegos Nixon Zaffirini 2-31 Perry, President of the Senate 2-32 ______________________________________ 2-33 President of the Senate 3-1 I hereby certify that the above 3-2 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-3 on April 22, 1999. 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Secretary of the Senate 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 Member, Texas Senate
