 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 664
 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas congratulates
 1-4 the citizens of Kendall County on the dedication of their new
 1-5 courthouse, which took place on Friday, April 23, 1999; and
 1-6 WHEREAS, Kendall County is nestled in central Texas'
 1-7 beautiful hill country, a part of our great state which is steeped
 1-8 in the culture of its many German-immigrant settlers; its 428,000
 1-9 acres were once part of Bexar, Comal, Blanco, and Kerr counties,
1-10 areas which, by 1859, were becoming more populated; uncomfortable
1-11 with such growth, a group of adventurous pioneers withdrew to the
1-12 surrounding countryside for a more agrarian lifestyle; their exodus
1-13 resulted in the establishment of Kendall County; and
1-14 WHEREAS, A charter was granted to Kendall County by the
1-15 State of Texas in 1862, and in accordance with her founders' wishes,
1-16     residents of Kendall County found their livelihood in agriculture;
1-17 eventually, the county's towns of Sisterdale, Boerne, Comfort,
1-18 Bergheim, and Kendalia were formed; and
1-19 WHEREAS, In 1869, citizens of Kendall County levied a
1-20     special tax to fund construction of a county courthouse in Boerne;
1-21 the original county courthouse stands today a proud, graceful
 2-1 edifice which has served citizens well for over a century; but
 2-2 by the late 1990s, after almost three decades of unprecedented
 2-3 population growth in Kendall County, the historic courthouse was
 2-4 unable to accommodate its citizens' needs; thus, plans were made
 2-5 for the construction of a new building; and
 2-6 WHEREAS, The Kendall County Commissioners Court appointed
 2-7 a Courthouse Planning Committee which consisted of County Treasurer
 2-8 Barbara Schwope, County Tax Assessor-Collector Betty Asher,
 2-9 local attorneys Bill Palmer and Chris Wallendorf, and
2-10 Judge James W. Gooden; in late 1995, Mrs. Asher was replaced by
2-11 James Hudson, newly elected Tax Assessor-Collector; architects
2-12 from the firm of Rehler, Vaughn and Koone, Incorporated, designed
2-13 the new structure, and the contract was awarded to Browning
2-14 Construction Company of San Antonio; and
2-15 WHEREAS, The new facility, which stands across the street
2-16 from the historic county courthouse, will meet the needs of
2-17 Kendall County's burgeoning populace in the next millennium,
2-18     bespeaking the integrity and pride of the community it serves;
2-19     now, therefore, be it
2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21 76th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the citizens
2-22 of Kendall County on the dedication of their new courthouse; and,
