1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 669 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-3 Staked Plains Council of the Texas Council for Social Studies 1-4 in establishing the "Carolyn Goebel Award for Achievement in 1-5 Social Studies Education" to honor educators for lifetime 1-6 devotion to social studies education in Lubbock; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Carolyn Goebel was born in El Paso, Texas, and 1-8 graduated from Lubbock High School; she received her bachelor's 1-9 and master's degrees from Texas Tech University; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Carolyn Goebel joined another great Texan, 1-11 Buddy Holly, when they became the first two distinguished 1-12 graduates of the Roscoe Wilson Elementary School in 1-13 Lubbock, Texas; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Carolyn Goebel has influenced the lives of 1-15 countless students and teachers in Texas during her many years 1-16 as a social studies teacher, coordinator for social studies for 1-17 the Lubbock Independent School District, and instructor at 1-18 Texas Tech University; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Carolyn Goebel has brought honor to our state 1-20 by serving as President, Executive Secretary, and Membership 1-21 Director of the Texas Council for Social Studies and as a member 1-22 of the nominating committee for the National Council for Social 1-23 Studies; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Carolyn Goebel has served as a tireless volunteer 2-1 for numerous organizations across the state, and serves as a member 2-2 of the Board of Directors of All Saints Episcopal School; now, 2-3 therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 76th Legislature, hereby extend its sincere congratulations 2-6 and special recognition to Carolyn Goebel and the Staked Plains 2-7 Council of the Texas Council for Social Studies; and, be it 2-8 further 2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-10 Carolyn Goebel as an expression of highest esteem from the 2-11 Texas Senate. 2-12 Duncan 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the above 2-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-17 on April 19, 1999. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
