1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 679 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the 1-3 Fort Worth Independent School District and Dunbar High School in 1-4 recognizing Gary Hicks as a recipient of the 1999 Texas Excellence 1-5 Teaching Award; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Presented by the Ex-Students' Association and 1-7 The University of Texas at Austin College of Education, this award 1-8 is given to outstanding high school and elementary school teachers 1-9 who have demonstrated student motivation, instructional expertise, 1-10 and cooperation with their colleagues; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Gary was nominated by his principal, and his 1-12 reputation as exemplifying the award's criteria allowed him to rise 1-13 to the top from a large and qualified field of nominees bringing a 1-14 sense of tremendous pride to his school; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Honored at the 1999 Conference on Texas Excellence 1-16 on Education held last February at The University of Texas campus, 1-17 Mr. Hicks received a cash award and a specially commissioned bronze 1-18 sculpture; and 1-19 WHEREAS, An inspiring and gifted educator, Gary is truly 1-20 deserving of the honor bestowed on him; the students of Dunbar High 1-21 School have received an outstanding education as a result of his 1-22 enthusiasm, expertise, and concern for his students; now, therefore, 1-23 be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 76th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Gary Hicks 2-2 for his dedication and commitment to the educational system of 2-3 Texas; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-5 as a token of the esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-6 Moncrief 2-7 ______________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the above 2-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-11 on April 19, 1999. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
