1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 684 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes 1-4 Reverend Floyd Nathaniel Williams, Sr., for his 41 years of loyal 1-5 service as pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Houston; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, A native Houstonian, Reverend Williams is married 1-8 to Cuney Berryman Williams, and the couple has been blessed with 1-9 six children and 10 grandchildren; he is a graduate of Bishop 1-10 College; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Reverend Williams is a well-known religious leader 1-12 who is active in a number of organizations; he is moderator of 1-13 The Independent Missionary Baptist General Association of Texas, 1-14 president of The Houston Baptist Pastors and Ministers Fellowship, 1-15 and chairman of Houston Ministers Against Crime; he is a member of 1-16 Houston Metropolitan Ministers; and 1-17 WHEREAS, He is a member of numerous civic organizations, 1-18 including the Advisory Board of United Way, the Mayor's Census 1-19 Committee, and the Advisory Board of the Police Commission; he 1-20 is a director of the Houston Council of Human Relations and a 1-21 commissioner for the Texas Youth Commission; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Reverend Williams has travelled extensively and 1-23 toured the Holy Land and numerous countries; he shared a preaching 1-24 mission in Japan and has preached in the mission field of Jamaica 2-1 yearly since 1969; he is a great orator who has served as the guest 2-2 speaker in major cities; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Over the last 41 years, Reverend Williams has 2-4 ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of innumerable 2-5 Christians; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Under his outstanding leadership, the Antioch 2-7 Missionary Baptist Church has provided enlightenment, hope, 2-8 and support to the Houston community; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Inspirational and dedicated to helping others, this 2-10 beloved pastor has devoted his time and energy unselfishly to the 2-11 members of his church and the residents of Harris County; and 2-12 WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, 2-13 Reverend Williams has performed countless ceremonies and 2-14 has prayed for and counselled his church members during their 2-15 hardships and in times of bereavement; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Reverend Williams is an accomplished theologian who 2-17 has had a positive impact on the lives of many; he is the recipient 2-18 of the Dedicated Service Award from the Texas Youth Commission, the 2-19 Public Service Award from the Houston Police Department and the Man 2-20 of the Year Award from the National Association for the Advancement 2-21 of Colored People; now, therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-23 76th Legislature, hereby join the members of Antioch Missionary 2-24 Baptist Church in commending Reverend Floyd Nathaniel Williams, Sr., 2-25 for his fervent service to his church, his fellowman, and his 2-26 community; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 3-2 for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 3-3 Whitmire 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 President of the Senate 3-6 I hereby certify that the above 3-7 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-8 on April 20, 1999. 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 Secretary of the Senate 3-11 ______________________________________ 3-12 Member, Texas Senate
