1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 706 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 extend congratulations to Mark and Jane Knox of Midland, Texas, 1-4 whose Mark Knox Flowers and Reflections were selected as Small 1-5 Business of the Year by the Texas Association of Businesses and 1-6 Chamber of Commerce; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Through hard work and determination coupled with 1-8 confidence in themselves, Mark and Jane started in the flower 1-9 business in 1960; they are now ranked 83rd out of the top 2,000 1-10 FTD florists in the United States and Canada as owners of Mark Knox 1-11 Flowers and Flowerland; they also operate Wholesale Floral Express; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, They are excellent examples of Texas' finest small 1-14 business persons at work; when yet another oil and gas recession 1-15 struck the Midland/Odessa area combined with the influx of new 1-16 competition for the flower business, Mr. and Mrs. Knox realized 1-17 the need for diversification; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Holding on to their commitment to their customers 1-19 and their employees, they were forced to explore new markets and 1-20 thus was born, Reflections; this inspiration of adding a fine gifts, 1-21 decorative accessories, and consignment furniture shop helped bring 1-22 recognition to Mark and Jane that is justly deserved; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Their dedication and perseverance have not gone 1-24 unnoticed for on April 29, 1999, they will be presented with the 2-1 statewide award for the small business division; now, therefore, 2-2 be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 76th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Mark and Jane Knox 2-5 for being selected Business of the Year; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-7 them as an expression of the admiration and high regard of the 2-8 Texas Senate. 2-9 Duncan 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 President of the Senate 2-12 I hereby certify that the above 2-13 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-14 on April 21, 1999. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate
