1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 713 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes 1-3 the Duncanville High School boys basketball team for winning the 1-4 1998-1999 University Interscholastic League Class 5A championship 1-5 on March 13, 1999; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Winning the final round by beating Kimball 78-61 1-7 made the Duncanville Panthers the first 5A school ever to win both 1-8 basketball and football championship titles in the same season; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Coming off a 35-3 season, these state champions 1-10 never lost sight of their dream to win the state title, and to play 1-11 in the final round against the Kimball Knights, who had won the 1-12 last four meetings, made the victory twice as significant; and 1-13 WHEREAS, In a concerted team effort, these dedicated young 1-14 men believed in themselves and brought to the court a fierce 1-15 fighting spirit and indomitable drive; and 1-16 WHEREAS, For their dedication to the game and the honor they 1-17 have brought to their school and their community, these fine young 1-18 men and their coaches merit recognition: Tre' Johnson, Doug Jones, 1-19 Roosevelt Brown, Victor Sobers, Ken Hendrix, Terrance Johnson, 1-20 Kevin Lake, Greg Ware, Hassan Conteh, Brandon Cregler, 1-21 Brian Boddicker, Ryan Randle, David Sykes, head coach Phil McNeely, 1-22 and assistant coach Dean McGuire; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Also deserving of recognition are Athletic Director 1-24 Bob Alpert, trainers Dave Burton and Julie Torre, student trainer 2-1 Channon Jackson, and student managers Ricky Jesperson, Lee Gray, 2-2 Zarquala Murrell, Akilah Davis, Crystal Ware, and Shandra Lane; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The Duncanville Panthers exhibited perseverance, 2-4 team unity, and respect for the highest ideals of American 2-5 sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 76th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Duncanville 2-8 boys basketball team on their great victory and extend 2-9 congratulations to the coaches and each of the team players; 2-10 and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as 2-12 a token of esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-13 Nelson 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on April 22, 1999. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
