 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 720
 1-3           WHEREAS, On April 26, 1999, Liberty County Day at the
 1-4     Capitol will be celebrated by its proud citizens in recognition
 1-5     of their illustrious county and the contributions it has made to
 1-6     the State of Texas; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, From the earliest days, citizens of the area
 1-8     have been major participants in the history of Texas; originally
 1-9     established in 1756 as a Spanish outpost, Atascosito survived
1-10     occupation by the French in 1818, and it was here, in 1831, that
1-11     the new municipality of Villa de la Santisima Trinidad de la Libertad
1-12     was colonized; and
1-13           WHEREAS, As one of the original 23 counties of the
1-14     Republic of Texas, Atascosito District encompassed all or part of
1-15     10 modern-day counties in southeast Texas; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Liberty County has not only a proud history, it has
1-17     proud ties to Texas government:  Price Daniel, the 38th Governor
1-18     of Texas, hailed from Dayton; financial interests in the area
1-19     were held by the 31st Governor of Texas, Ross S. Sterling;
1-20     Colonel Edward Bradford Pickett of Liberty presided over the
1-21     1875 Texas Constitutional Convention; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Today the residents are here to celebrate the
1-23     present and the future of this great county in the heart of the
1-24     Golden Triangle; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-2     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the citizens of Ames,
 2-3     Cleveland, Daisetta, Dayton, Dayton Lakes, Devers, Eastgate,
 2-4     Hardin, Hull, Kenefick, Liberty, Moss Bluff, Moss Hill,
 2-5     North Cleveland, Plum Grove, Raywood, Romayor, Rye, and Tarkington;
 2-6     and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-8     Liberty County as an expression of the highest regard of the
 2-9     Texas Senate.
