1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 722
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-3     recognizing Little Cypress Elementary School in Orange, Texas,
 1-4     on the occasion of its "I'm Texas Proud Day"; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, On Friday, May 7, 1999, Little Cypress Elementary
 1-6     School will be transformed into a showcase of Texas exhibits,
 1-7     demonstrations, traditions, customs, and history for its "I'm Texas
 1-8     Proud Day"; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The day-long event replaces the traditional
1-10     method of using textbooks and lectures to learn about Texas
1-11     and its history; the day offers hands-on experiences with
1-12     demonstrations planned such as soap making, square dancing,
1-13     roping techniques, and tortilla making; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The school's library is being turned into a
1-15     museum for the day, displaying historical items on loan from the
1-16     local Heritage House Museum; outside activities include antique
1-17     wagon displays, hayrides, cattle exhibits, music, games, and arts
1-18     and crafts; students may participate in relays and face painting;
1-19     and
1-20           WHEREAS, Students, teachers, and parents will be enjoying
1-21     an old-fashioned picnic lunch under the trees, and a special
1-22     chuckwagon hospitality room will offer refreshments to volunteers,
1-23     staff, and guests from the local government and business community;
1-24     now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-2     76th Legislature, hereby commend Little Cypress Elementary School
 2-3     on its innovative approach to teaching our state's history and
 2-4     culture and extend best wishes for a joyous "I'm Texas Proud Day";
 2-5     and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 2-7     school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
