 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 740
 1-3           WHEREAS, The 70th Annual Linz Award has been won by
 1-4     Thomas M. Dunning of Dallas, and the Senate of the State of Texas
 1-5     is proud to recognize him; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The 1998 Linz Award honors the citizen of
 1-7     Dallas County whose humanitarian and civic efforts have created
 1-8     the greatest benefit to the City of Dallas during the last year;
 1-9     and
1-10           WHEREAS, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
1-11     Lockton Dunning Benefit Company, Mr. Dunning works for a
1-12     full-service corporate health and welfare benefits firm; and
1-13           WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin
1-14     with a business degree in finance and insurance, he was awarded
1-15     the chartered life underwriter designation in 1973; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The recipient of many honors and awards,
1-17     Mr. Dunning was presented in 1990 with a Certificate of
1-18     Appreciation Award by the Greater Dallas Community Relations
1-19     Commission and in 1988 was named recipient of the American
1-20     Jewish Committee's Human Relations Award; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Requested by the mayor and the city council of
1-22     Dallas to chair Dallas Together from 1988 to 1990 and the Dallas
1-23     Homeless Task Force in 1990, Mr. Dunning was chair of the Vote Yes
1-24     Committee for the Dallas Independent School District Bond Program
 2-1     in 1992; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Currently vice chair of the State Fair of
 2-3     Texas, he has served in that post since 1989, and prior to
 2-4     that he was vice president of the Dallas Park and Recreation
 2-5     Board from 1979 to 1981; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Selected to be on the Board of Directors of
 2-7     the Texas Department of Human Services from 1983 to 1985,
 2-8     Mr. Dunning was also on the Board of the State Highways and
 2-9     Public Transportation Commission from 1985 to 1986, and the
2-10     Texas Board of Criminal Justice from 1993 to 1995; he was the
2-11     chair and a board member of the Texas Water Development Board;
2-12     and
2-13           WHEREAS, Vice chair of the Dallas/Fort Worth
2-14     International Airport Board from 1996 to the present, he
2-15     has served on the Advisory Board of Texas Woman's University
2-16     School of Management since 1998, on the Board of Directors of
2-17     the Baylor Health Care System Foundation since 1997, on the Board
2-18     of Trustees of Southwestern Medical Foundation since 1994, on the
2-19     Advisory Board of the Salvation Army from 1988 to 1996, and on the
2-20     Board of Directors of the Dallas Citizens Council from 1987 to
2-21     1995; and
2-22           WHEREAS, The outstanding contributions of this dedicated
2-23     gentleman have greatly assisted the citizens of Dallas, the
2-24     Metroplex, and the State of Texas, and his accomplishments will
2-25     continue to bear fruit for years to come; now, therefore, be it
2-26           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 3-1     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Thomas M. Dunning of
 3-2     Dallas for winning the 1998 Linz Award; and, be it further
 3-3           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 3-4     him as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
