1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 762 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 1-3 in recognizing the community action agencies of Texas and in 1-4 designating May of 1999 Texas Community Action Month; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Community action agencies were created when the 1-6 Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was signed into law; this year, 1-7 community action agencies celebrate their 35th anniversary; and 1-8 WHEREAS, In Texas, there are 49 community action agencies 1-9 in 248 counties, and each of these agencies has made significant 1-10 contributions to individuals and families of limited income by 1-11 providing them with innovative and cost-effective programs that 1-12 are designed to promote self-sufficiency; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The community action agencies are governed by a 1-14 tripartite board that is representative of the entire community, 1-15 including locally elected officials, business entities, and 1-16 citizens of limited income; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Community action agencies collaborate with 1-18 faith-based organizations, national organizations, such as the 1-19 American Red Cross, as well as the business sector to improve the 1-20 lives of citizens and to help ensure that all citizens are able to 1-21 live in dignity; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-23 76th Legislature, hereby commend the community action agencies of 1-24 Texas on their humanitarian endeavors and accomplishments and join 2-1 them in celebrating May of 1999 as Texas Community Action Month; 2-2 and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in 2-4 honor of the community action agencies in Texas as an expression 2-5 of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-6 Barrientos 2-7 ______________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the above 2-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-11 on April 27, 1999. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
