 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 773
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize the accomplishments of Boy Scout Troop 454; this
 1-5     distinguished troop of 54 is conferring the rank of Eagle Scout
 1-6     on 11 young members, the largest group of young men ever to attain
 1-7     this rank at a single time within the troop's history; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Texas recognizes that a successful future rests on
 1-9     the shoulders of its youth; it is of crucial importance to groom
1-10     our rising generations to be tomorrow's honorable and judicious
1-11     leaders; and
1-12           WHEREAS, As resources are always limited in our communities
1-13     and as social needs are many, public policy has long encouraged
1-14     individual and group volunteer efforts to improve the quality of
1-15     life in Texas; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America instills a spirit of
1-17     volunteerism in young men and teaches our young to heed the call
1-18     to civic and community responsibility through an advancement
1-19     system that leads to the rank of Eagle Scout; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Troop 454's 11 Eagle Scout candidates planned,
1-21     directed, and completed projects involving more than 1,000 hours
1-22     of work with help from volunteers recruited from their families,
1-23     friends, and fellow Boy Scouts, using material donated by local
1-24     businesses; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Their projects involved such worthwhile causes as
 2-2     making necessary and significant repairs and improvements to
 2-3     state and local natural areas, gardens, and parks; chronicling
 2-4     tombstones in a local cemetery for historical purposes; and
 2-5     building a play and exercise deck for a home which provides care
 2-6     for babies and children with AIDS; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, These 11 Scouts have raised the quality of life in
 2-8     their community for all residents without any expenditure of public
 2-9     funds or thought of their own financial gain; these young men are
2-10     truly a merit to the Boy Scout organization, to their families, and
2-11     to their communities; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby commend the leadership and civic
2-14     responsibility demonstrated in attaining the prestigious rank
2-15     of Eagle Scout by the following members of Boy Scouts of America
2-16     Troop 454:  Chris Dismukes, Joey Fernandez, Dan Habitzreiter,
2-17     Read Hoffman, Josh Krezinski, Robert Moritz, John Michael Pike,
2-18     Brad Robicheaux, Taylor Roye, Driskill Stallworth, and
2-19     Russell Yeager, and their Scoutmasters Walter Roye and
2-20     Archie Whittemore; these fine Texans have shown their dedication
2-21     to the spirit and goals of Scouting, to the traditions of the
2-22     Lone Star State, and to the future of their communities; and, be
2-23     it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for each
2-25     of these Eagle Scouts, their Scoutmasters, and for Troop 454 as an
2-26     expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
