1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 776
 1-2           WHEREAS, Bob Snead has made significant historical
 1-3     contributions through his moving and memorable artwork about the
 1-4     Buffalo Soldiers, and the Senate of the State of Texas is proud
 1-5     to join the citizens of El Paso in recognizing him for his artistic
 1-6     accomplishments; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Drawing from his own highly decorated
 1-8     military background and extensive research, Mr. Snead has revived
 1-9     historic moments of the first all-black Cavalry Regiments of the
1-10     United States Army; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Having insight into what he paints gives his
1-12     canvases a lot of feeling; his depictions show the courage, the
1-13     valor, and the isolation of the men of the 9th and 10th Cavalry
1-14     Regiments; Mr. Snead has brought the forgotten Buffalo Soldiers
1-15     back to the forefront; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. Snead studied at the Chouinard Art Institute
1-17     in Los Angeles and the University of Mainz in Germany and under
1-18     the guidance of Wolfgang Braum of West Germany and the late
1-19     O. A. Williams of North Carolina; his techniques enhance the
1-20     compelling spirit of his characterizations; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Showcasing "A Hundred Years Ago:  The Buffalo
1-22     Soldiers Revisited" outside the office of First Lady Laura Bush
1-23     is a tribute to Mr. Snead and his work; he is the 17th artist to
1-24     be asked to participate in Mrs. Bush's display of contemporary
 2-1     Texas art; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-3     76th Legislature, hereby commend Bob Snead for his magnificent works
 2-4     and his notable contributions to reviving the life and times of the
 2-5     Buffalo Soldier; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
 2-7     as a token of the admiration and respect of the Texas Senate.
