1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 779 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Gary Clayton Puckett 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Fort Davis in mourning the loss of Gary Clayton Puckett, who died 1-8 May 14, 1998; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born October 10, 1949, in Fort Stockton, Texas, 1-10 Gary was the first child of Eva Jane Warnock Puckett and 1-11 Jerry Clayton Puckett; he graduated from Fort Stockton High School 1-12 in 1968 and from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in 1-13 animal science in 1972; he attended graduate school classes studying 1-14 feedlot management; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Gary married Mary Holstein, his high school 1-16 sweetheart, and the couple was blessed with a wonderful marriage 1-17 and two fine sons, Worth and Matt Puckett; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In 1976, Gary and his family moved to Fort Davis 1-19 when he became a partner in Barilla Mountain Ranch; a successful 1-20 rancher and entrepreneur, Gary also established the Gary Puckett 1-21 Fencing Company and built fences on many of the area ranches; and 1-22 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Gary was dedicated to his 1-23 work and was respected for his many accomplishments and his 1-24 leadership in the community; he was a member of the Texas Sheep 2-1 and Goat Raisers Association and the Texas Heritage Association 2-2 and was a proud member of the Texas A&M Former Students Association 2-3 and the Century Club; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Gary had a special place in his heart for the young 2-5 people of Fort Davis and was seen attending hundreds of events at 2-6 the elementary school where his wife Mary teaches, as well as Little 2-7 League ball games, high school sporting events, and college rodeos; 2-8 and 2-9 WHEREAS, Gary will be fondly remembered for his love of 2-10 ranching and his willingness to share this love and knowledge 2-11 with his family and friends; he was beloved by his family for the 2-12 unending support and understanding he gave to each of them; and 2-13 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, Gary 2-14 gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and 2-15 valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Gary Puckett was a devoted husband, father, and 2-17 grandfather who lived his life to the fullest, and he leaves behind 2-18 memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many 2-19 friends; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-21 76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved 2-22 family of Gary Clayton Puckett: his wife, Mary Holstein Puckett; 2-23 his sons and daughter-in-law, Worth and Becky Puckett and 2-24 Matt Puckett; his parents, Eva Jane and Jerry Clayton Puckett; his 2-25 brother and sister, Roger Puckett and Leslye Jane Puckett Curnutt; 2-26 and his two grandchildren, Clayton and Jacy Puckett; and, be it 3-1 further 3-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-3 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 3-4 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 3-5 in memory of Gary Clayton Puckett. 3-6 Madla 3-7 Armbrister Gallegos Ogden 3-8 Barrientos Harris Ratliff 3-9 Bernsen Haywood Shapiro 3-10 Bivins Jackson Shapleigh 3-11 Brown Lindsay Sibley 3-12 Cain Lucio Truan 3-13 Carona Luna Wentworth 3-14 Duncan Moncrief West 3-15 Ellis Nelson Whitmire 3-16 Fraser Nixon Zaffirini 3-17 Perry, President of the Senate 3-18 ______________________________________ 3-19 President of the Senate 3-20 I hereby certify that the above 3-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-22 on April 29, 1999, by a rising vote. 3-23 ______________________________________ 3-24 Secretary of the Senate 3-25 ______________________________________ 3-26 Member, Texas Senate
