1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 785 1-2 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize 1-3 Josh Nelson for earning his black belt in Ba Ki Do Karate on 1-4 April 9, 1999; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Ten-year-old Josh received his belt during a special 1-6 ceremony on April 10, 1999; and 1-7 WHEREAS, With diligence and determination, this talented young 1-8 man trained hard at Ba Ki Do for five years to earn his black belt, 1-9 and Josh has received 10 karate belts on his long journey to the 1-10 highly revered black belt; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Josh consistently maintained a 90 percent or better 1-12 grade average during this time and performed chores at home to show 1-13 the respect, hard work, and cooperation required of a karate student; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, Josh greatly appreciates the guidance of 1-16 Sensei Michael Bainton and the other instructors at South Austin 1-17 Karate; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Only one out of every 500 martial arts students 1-19 achieves black belt status, which is equivalent to earning a college 1-20 degree in the amount of time and effort required; and 1-21 WHEREAS, His family, including his mother, Karen, his 1-22 father, Steve, his stepfather, Doug, his brother, Jacob, who served 1-23 as his partner for the techniques testing, his sisters, Alyssa and 1-24 Kira, and his grandparents, were present when Josh passed the 2-1 grueling test for his karate black belt; his stepbrother, Jesse, 2-2 earned his black belt the same evening; his relatives and friends 2-3 are proud of his significant accomplishment; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Josh Nelson for receiving his 2-6 black belt in Ba Ki Do Karate; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-8 as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. 2-9 Barrientos 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 President of the Senate 2-12 I hereby certify that the above 2-13 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-14 on April 29, 1999. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate
