1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 798
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-3     recognize the Empowering Teen Leaders program; this year's
 1-4     Harris County participants are the pride of their communities;
 1-5     and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Empowering Teen Leaders seeks to counter the many
 1-7     negative influences that vie for today's youth by equipping teens
 1-8     with the skills and self-confidence to be role models, to act
 1-9     responsibly, to take leadership roles, and to contribute positively
1-10     to community needs; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The training and curriculum for Empowering Teen
1-12     Leaders stresses goals and vision; it also helps students hone
1-13     abilities which are necessary for effective community leadership,
1-14     such as creative problem solving, listening and communication
1-15     skills, and the capacity to work with diverse cultures; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Teens are expected to complete a leadership course,
1-17     as well as attend Government in Action, an interactive learning
1-18     experience of the legislative process with state representatives
1-19     and other elected officials; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Throughout their leadership experience, teens will
1-21     be assisted by community partners and adult mentors; all participants
1-22     of the program, both students and adult volunteers, hope to build
1-23     a community coalition which will actively nurture the program's
1-24     promising young leaders; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-2     76th Legislature, hereby commend Empowering Teen Leaders and
 2-3     its noble purpose of developing future Texas leaders; and, be
 2-4     it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
 2-6     expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
