1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 845 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 1-3 to recognize the Community Council of South Central Texas, 1-4 Incorporated, and to designate the month of May, 1999, as 1-5 Community Action Month; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Community Council of South Central Texas, 1-7 Incorporated, was established as a community action agency on 1-8 May 11, 1965; the council's service area encompasses the South 1-9 Central Texas counties of Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, 1-10 Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, Created by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, 1-13 community action agencies have a 35-year history of promoting 1-14 self-sufficiency for those people with limited incomes; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Community action agencies, such as the 1-16 Community Council of South Central Texas, Incorporated, have made 1-17 significant contributions to individuals and families in our state 1-18 by providing them with innovative and cost-effective programs; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Community action agencies are needed as major 1-20 participants in the reform of the welfare system, and welfare 1-21 reform in Texas has benefitted from the state's partnership with 1-22 these agencies; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Community action agencies continue to help 1-24 citizens with limited incomes to improve their lives and their 2-1 living conditions and enable them to live in dignity; now, 2-2 therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 76th Legislature, hereby commend the Community Council of 2-5 South Central Texas, Incorporated, on its many accomplishments 2-6 on behalf of our state's citizens and extend to the council best 2-7 wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-9 the council as a memento of Community Action Month. 2-10 Madla 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 President of the Senate 2-13 I hereby certify that the above 2-14 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-15 on May 4, 1999. 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 Secretary of the Senate 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Member, Texas Senate
