 1-2                                  In Memory
 1-3                                     of
 1-4                             Charles R. Borchers
 1-5           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-6     of Laredo in honoring the memory of Charles R. Borchers, who died
 1-7     June 27, 1997; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Borchers attended Laredo schools and was
 1-9     graduated valedictorian of his class at Saint Joseph's Academy
1-10     in 1960; after receiving a bachelor's degree from Saint Edward's
1-11     University in 1963, Mr. Borchers attended The University of Texas
1-12     School of Law; in 1966, he passed the bar and joined his father's
1-13     law firm; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mr. Borchers resided in Laredo his entire life, and
1-15     he did much to improve the quality of life for its citizens; he
1-16     served as district attorney for the 49th Judicial District which
1-17     includes Webb, Zapata, and Dimmit counties; later, he served six
1-18     years as trustee of the United Independent School District, acting
1-19     as its president from 1986 to 1991; Mr. Borchers was a member of
1-20     the Laredo-Webb County Bar Association and was a longtime member of
1-21     the Laredo Rotary Club; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Colleagues respected Mr. Borchers as a dedicated
1-23     professional; his wisdom, warmth, humor, and valued counsel will
1-24     not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Charles Borchers was a devoted husband and father;
 2-2     upon his passing, he left behind memories that will be treasured
 2-3     forever by his family; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 2-6     members of his family:  his beloved wife, Celita Pappas Borchers;
 2-7     his mother, Angela S. Borchers; and his three daughters,
 2-8     Valerie Borchers, Katrina Borchers Mohrer, and Erica Borchers;
 2-9     and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-11     expression of sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the
2-12     Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles R. Borchers.
