1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 856
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is extremely
 1-3     proud to recognize the Junior League of Odessa, Incorporated, on
 1-4     the grand occasion of its 50th anniversary; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Promoting volunteerism, developing the potential
 1-6     of women, and improving their community were the objectives of 15
 1-7     women who came together in June, 1948, to form the Junior Service
 1-8     League of Odessa; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, With a vision of "Together We Touch the Heart of
1-10     Odessa," this group has grown to almost 300 members who have a deep
1-11     commitment to working within their community to meet the needs of
1-12     every Odessan; and
1-13           WHEREAS, From the outset, the Junior League has been involved
1-14     in various projects that reach out to children and families in need;
1-15     members established the Odessa Day Nursery, Teen Court, and Child's
1-16     Play, all of which are still thriving; and
1-17           WHEREAS, For 37 years, the Junior League has sponsored the
1-18     Salvation Army Toy Tea and given out the W. D. Noel Volunteer of
1-19     the Year Award for the past 17 years; KidsZone has been in existence
1-20     for seven years; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Only with the support and generosity of the Odessa
1-22     community has the Junior League been able to accomplish its many
1-23     worthwhile projects; a leader in fundraising, it has been able
1-24     to commit money and time to the Rainbow Room and the Ector County
 2-1     Library in response to their current focus "Families at Risk"; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, As an anniversary gift to Odessa and the surrounding
 2-3     area, the Junior League of Odessa is donating $25,000 to the
 2-4     Children's Library at the Ector County Library; now, therefore, be
 2-5     it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Junior League of Odessa
 2-8     on its 50th anniversary and commend the organization for its
 2-9     generous contributions to the citizens of Odessa and Ector County;
2-10     and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-12     expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
