1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 878 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 John L. Southall 1-5 WHEREAS, John L. Southall, Assistant Chief of Police of the 1-6 Greenville Police Department, died tragically on October 6, 1912, 1-7 and the Senate of the State of Texas would like to pay tribute to 1-8 this gallant peace officer; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A man of great ability and unquestioned integrity, 1-10 Assistant Police Chief Southall was a courageous man who risked 1-11 his life every day to protect the lives and property of our 1-12 citizens; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This exceptional officer was a man of great bravery 1-14 whose strong sense of duty was reflected in a deep commitment to 1-15 the welfare of others; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The courage and personal sacrifice of this dauntless 1-17 officer in the line of duty will constantly remind others of his 1-18 deep devotion to the importance of a fair and effective law 1-19 enforcement system; and 1-20 WHEREAS, John Southall was a loyal friend and outstanding 1-21 law enforcement officer, and his memory will be cherished by all 1-22 who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-24 76th Legislature, hereby honor the life and memory of 2-1 Assistant Police Chief Southall for his supreme sacrifice; and, 2-2 be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 2-4 expression of the highest respect and gratitude of the Texas Senate, 2-5 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in the memory 2-6 of John L.
