1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 920 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Petra Mendiola Cruz 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-6 United Daughters of the Confederacy in honoring the memory of 1-7 Petra Mendiola Cruz; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A ceremony was held May 2, 1999, in Houston to 1-9 unveil the marker dedicated to this Real Daughter of the 1-10 Confederacy; and 1-11 WHEREAS, As descendants of Confederate soldiers, this 1-12 century-old women's organization was originally founded to keep 1-13 the history and the heritage of the Confederacy alive; and 1-14 WHEREAS, With the passing of time, this benevolent society 1-15 broadened its objectives of patriotism and memorialization into 1-16 caring for the veterans and widows of all wars and conflicts and 1-17 the promotion of civic endeavors; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Petra Mendiola Cruz was a venerable member of 1-19 Southern Cross Chapter 2502 and worthy of the tribute paid to her 1-20 with the marker; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences on the loss 2-3 of this Real Daughter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; 2-4 and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 2-6 expression of the deepest sympathy of the Texas Senate. 2-7 Whitmire 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on May 10, 1999, by a rising vote. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
