 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 921
 1-3           WHEREAS, Following the principles of the Scout oath and
 1-4     promise, Travis Scott Banks of Pflugerville, Texas, advanced
 1-5     through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second, First, Star, and Life
 1-6     classes before recently attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, In receiving the coveted Eagle Badge, this fine
 1-8     young man becomes one of the privileged few who ever accomplish
 1-9     this distinguished honor; in addition to this achievement, Travis
1-10     holds many other Scout awards, which include the following:  Mile
1-11     Swim Award, two terms as Patrol Leader, two terms as Troop Scribe,
1-12     and Arrow of Light; this esteemed Scout was tapped out for the Order
1-13     of the Arrow in the Spring of 1998; in 1999, he was initiated into
1-14     the Brotherhood and is Secretary-Treasurer of the Tomahawk Chapter;
1-15     and
1-16           WHEREAS, Travis conducted a unique service project to
1-17     complete his Eagle Scout requirement; he designed and built a
1-18     butterfly garden for a new elementary school in Pflugerville; his
1-19     skillful project serves as a lovely addition to the community; and
1-20           WHEREAS, A multifaceted young man, this energetic eighth
1-21     grader has distinguished himself in many areas; he is first chair
 2-1     tuba in the Park Crest Middle School Symphonic Band and a member
 2-2     of the Jazz Band; in the Spring of 1998, he played the lead of
 2-3     Daddy Warbucks in his school's play, Annie; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, For Travis, scouting is a birthright; both his
 2-5     grandfather, Neil Gilligan, and brother, James Lewis Clay, are
 2-6     Eagle Scouts; additionally, Travis's brother was Chief of the
 2-7     Order of the Arrow for Southern Europe while stationed with the
 2-8     United States Army in Italy; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Travis's family is truly proud of him; members
2-10     include his parents, Richard and Laura Banks, his sister,
2-11     Tiffany Ann Clay, his brother, James Lewis Clay, and his
2-12     grandparents, Neil and Lillie Gilligan, and Geraldine Smith;
2-13     all salute this extraordinary young man; and
2-14           WHEREAS, Travis looks forward to an exciting summer; in
2-15     June he will make the Philmont Trek at the Philmont Boy Scout
2-16     reservation in New Mexico, and in July he will have his
2-17     Court of Honor; and
2-18           WHEREAS, Travis is truly a shining example to his troop
2-19     and indeed to all citizens of Texas; it is only fitting that he
2-20     be honored by his state; now, therefore, be it
2-21           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-22     76th Legislature, hereby commend Travis Scott Banks of
2-23     Boy Scout Troop 408 on his achievements; and, be it further
 3-1           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 3-2     Eagle Scout Banks as an expression of admiration from the
 3-3     Texas Senate.
