 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 923
 1-3           WHEREAS, On May 12, 1999, marchers from Houston who want to
 1-4     commemorate all United States prisoners of war, those missing in
 1-5     action, war veterans, and our troops will walk up Congress Avenue
 1-6     to the State Capitol, and the Texas Senate is proud to recognize
 1-7     these intrepid Texans; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The walk begins on May 7, 1999, in Houston, and
 1-9     will include representatives from several veterans organizations,
1-10     including American Legion posts, The Twenty and Four, Veterans of
1-11     Foreign War posts, Texas Association of Former Marines, Marine
1-12     Corps League, and the Texas Air National Guard; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The walk is intended to increase support for
1-14     our prisoners of war, those missing in action, and our troops;
1-15     residents of towns along the route will wear yellow ribbons and
1-16     will join the march as it goes through town; and
1-17           WHEREAS, In 1997, estimates of those prisoners of war from
1-18     the five wars during this century were over 100,000; this does
1-19     not include those missing in action from the wars during the
1-20     20th century; and
1-21           WHEREAS, The group coming to Austin will be comprised of war
1-22     veterans of Korea, Vietnam, and a World War II former prisoner of
 2-1     war; walkers are welcome to join the marchers anywhere along the
 2-2     route; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, This march is an appropriate occasion for all Texans
 2-4     and all Americans to show their loyal support for the brave men and
 2-5     women who have defended our country and its ideals, security, and
 2-6     safety; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     76th Legislature, hereby commend the marchers, praise the heroic
 2-9     actions of all those war veterans from our country's five wars,
2-10     and pause to remember the prisoners of war and those missing in
2-11     action and who sacrificed so much for their country; and, be it
2-12     further
2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-14     expression of the highest regard and esteem of the Texas Senate.
