1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 929
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-3     recognize Patricia E. Mays, who is retiring as principal of
 1-4     L. A. Stemmons Elementary School after years of loyal service
 1-5     with the Dallas Independent School District; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Patricia Mays began her successful career as an
 1-7     elementary classroom demonstration teacher before becoming an
 1-8     assistant principal in the district; she then served as
 1-9     principal of Frederick Douglass School prior to her assignment
1-10     at L. A. Stemmons Elementary School; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Mrs. Mays has served as the chairperson for the
1-12     Dallas Independent School District Superintendent's Leadership
1-13     Council and is a member of the National Association of Elementary
1-14     School Principals; she is listed in Who's Who in Education; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Patricia Mays has long been admired by her
1-16     fellow educators and by members of the Dallas community for her
1-17     many talents in the field of education; she was the recipient of
1-18     the Community Excellence in Education Award in 1979, the Dallas
1-19     Independent School District Excellence in Education Award in 1992,
1-20     and the Dr. Kenneth N. Brashear Principal Excellence Award in 1993;
1-21     and
1-22           WHEREAS, Under her superior leadership, the students at
1-23     L. A. Stemmons Elementary School have learned to persevere in their
 2-1     work and to strive for excellence; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Hardworking and resourceful, Mrs. Mays has skillfully
 2-3     handled the complexities and far-reaching responsibilities of a
 2-4     principal's position; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, As a tribute to Patricia Mays's years of dedication
 2-6     in the field of education and her notable achievements at
 2-7     L. A. Stemmons Elementary School, a reception has been planned in
 2-8     her honor on May 19, 1999, at the Top of the Cliff in the Bank of
 2-9     America of Oak Cliff; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Patricia Mays for
2-12     making L. A. Stemmons Elementary School the high-quality institution
2-13     it is today; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
2-15     as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
