 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 964
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing Alison Lewis and in welcoming her on the occasion of
 1-5     her visit to the State Capitol on May 17, 1999; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Alison is a 16-year-old high school junior who
 1-7     is enrolled in classes at Midwestern State University; she has
 1-8     been a dancer since the age of five and is an apprentice in the
 1-9     Wichita Falls Ballet Company; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Alison has been clogging since the age of seven and
1-11     has consistently won National Clogging Association competitions in
1-12     various categories, including team, duet, and individual; she was
1-13     the first and only elementary entry to win the grand championship
1-14     in the Buck and Wing Category when she won it with her partner at
1-15     the age of nine; and
1-16           WHEREAS, A member of the clogging team, The Clogging
1-17     Sensation, she is the team's youngest and only dancer from Texas;
1-18     the team has travelled extensively across the United States and
1-19     has been invited to open the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia,
1-20     in the year 2000; one of the team's prestigious engagements was
1-21     entertaining world leaders at The Summit of the Eight in
1-22     Denver, Colorado; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Alison is recognized as the grand champion of the
 2-2     International Acapella Championship, having earned her title at
 2-3     the International Clogging Convention in the Grand Ole Opry Hotel
 2-4     in Nashville, Tennessee; in the acapella category, dancers are
 2-5     judged by their clogging sounds only and are not viewed by the
 2-6     judges; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, A highly talented and industrious young lady,
 2-8     Alison strives for excellence in all of her endeavors; a
 2-9     hardworking student, she has been a member of the National Honor
2-10     Society, Band, and ACAP Choir and has participated in volleyball,
2-11     soccer, and track; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby commend Alison Lewis on her remarkable
2-14     dancing skills and her many accomplishments and extend to her best
2-15     wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-17     Alison as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
