1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 992 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing the Colleyville Heritage High School girls varsity 1-5 soccer team on capturing the Class 4A girls state soccer 1-6 championship title; and 1-7 WHEREAS, At the beginning of the year, the Colleyville Lady 1-8 Panthers were ranked No. 2 in the nation by the National Soccer 1-9 Coaches Association of America; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The Lady Panthers earned their title by defeating 1-11 Friendswood in the Class 4A championship game 2-0 on April 3, 1999, 1-12 in Georgetown; the Panthers are now the winners of their school's 1-13 first-ever University Interscholastic League team championship; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The Panthers' two goals were scored by sophomore 1-15 Jessi Moore, chosen as the District 11-4A Most Valuable Player, and 1-16 by senior Krystal Pfluger, the District 11-4A Offensive Player of 1-17 the Year, who scored 20 seconds before the end of the game; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The entire team's relentless defensive pressure shut 1-19 down Friendswood, resulting in the Panthers' 22nd shutout of the 1-20 season; the Panthers completed their season with an overall record 2-1 of 26-0-1, 22 shutouts, and 87 goals; the defense allowed only 2-2 seven goals; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The fine skills and discipline instilled in the 2-4 players by head coach Angie Moss and assistant coaches Susan Alcala 2-5 and Jenny Jones, as well as the remarkable talents of the team 2-6 members, gave the Panthers the edge against the strong opponents 2-7 they encountered throughout the season; and 2-8 WHEREAS, The Panthers have benefitted from the enthusiastic 2-9 support of athletic coordinator Chris Cunningham, athletic director 2-10 Ted Brevelle, and principal Dr. Marlin Stanberry; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The members of the championship Panther team are 2-12 Michele Vaughan, Laurie Wollin, Krystal Pfluger, Kelly Christoffer, 2-13 Tierney Stout, Amy Van Zandt, Bethany Williams, Jessi Moore, 2-14 Blair Wheeler, Allison Horn, Sarah Jensen, Summer McClendon, 2-15 Ann Travis, Alycia Richardson, Staci Everett, Julie Stevens, 2-16 Bridget Saunders, Kathy Nichols, Stephanie Smith, and 2-17 Natalie Noblitt; and 2-18 WHEREAS, The Lady Panthers are now prominent on the list of 2-19 All-District soccer selections for 1999, and head coach Angie Moss 2-20 has been named Coach of the Year as a tribute to her invaluable 2-21 leadership; and 2-22 WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance, team unity, and respect for 2-23 the highest ideals of American sportsmanship, the Lady Panthers have 3-1 brought honor and excitement to their school and their community; 3-2 now, therefore, be it 3-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-4 76th Legislature, hereby commend the Colleyville Heritage 3-5 High School Lady Panthers on their superior performances and 3-6 extend congratulations to them and to their coaches on capturing 3-7 the championship title; and, be it further 3-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-9 Lady Panthers as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate. 3-10 Nelson 3-11 ______________________________________ 3-12 President of the Senate 3-13 I hereby certify that the above 3-14 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-15 on May 14, 1999. 3-16 ______________________________________ 3-17 Secretary of the Senate 3-18 ______________________________________ 3-19 Member, Texas Senate
