 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 993
 1-3           WHEREAS, Mexic-Arte Museum is the capital city's museum
 1-4     dedicated to presenting Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art,
 1-5     and for 15 years many dedicated individuals of this noteworthy
 1-6     institution have worked to produce and present outstanding
 1-7     exhibitions and educational programs promoting the artistic
 1-8     heritage of these cultures; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, As one of the oldest institutions and as a
1-10     forerunner in presenting cultural programs that are deeply
1-11     rooted in this state, Mexic-Arte Museum has exemplified the
1-12     diversity within our state and has created important ties with
1-13     our neighboring country, Mexico; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Individuals, private businesses, foundations, the
1-15     City of Austin, the Texas Commission on the Arts, Mid-America
1-16     Arts Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, the
1-17     Consulate General of Mexico in Austin, and others have contributed
1-18     to establishing the museum; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Mexic-Arte Museum has long served as a center of
1-20     Mexican, Mexican American, and Latin American arts programming in
1-21     Texas, coordinating an array of exhibitions and programs in Austin
 2-1     and cities throughout the Lone Star State, including San Antonio,
 2-2     El Paso, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, Laredo, Kingsville, Dallas, and
 2-3     others; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, As the Official Sister Museum of the Diego Rivera
 2-5     and Frida Kahlo Studio Museum in Mexico City, Mexic-Arte Museum
 2-6     has served as a bridge between Texas and neighboring Mexico
 2-7     through its many cultural programs and exchanges; the Consul
 2-8     General of Mexico is an honorary member of the Mexic-Arte Museum
 2-9     Board of Directors, and the Consulate General of Mexico Library
2-10     is housed at the museum as well; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Located on Congress Avenue in Austin, just six
2-12     blocks from the State Capitol, accessible to citizens and
2-13     visitors, Mexic-Arte Museum is situated in the heart of Texas to
2-14     showcase Mexican, Mexican American, and Latin American art and
2-15     culture; it is indeed a privilege to recognize the museum for the
2-16     many vital contributions that it has made toward the education and
2-17     enlightenment of children and adults alike, and it is fitting that
2-18     this worthy endeavor be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-20     76th Legislature, express support for this valuable contribution
2-21     to the state's culturally rich history by recognizing Mexic-Arte
2-22     Museum for presenting and celebrating the cultural heritage and
2-23     exchange of Mexican, Mexican American, and Latin American art and
2-24     culture for 15 years and extend best wishes to all those
 3-1     associated with this renowned institution; and, be it further
 3-2           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 3-3     Mexic-Arte Museum President Jorge A. Sedeno for prominent display
 3-4     at the museum.
