 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1003
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize Holly Mills for her yearlong reign as Miss Texas
 1-5     U.S.A. in 1998; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Holly Mills is a seventh-generation Texan who
 1-7     was born and raised in San Antonio; she graduated from
 1-8     Southwest Texas State University with a bachelor of business
 1-9     administration degree; she received the university's Sales
1-10     and Marketing Award and participated on the Small Business
1-11     Institute consulting team; she was an officer of Alpha Delta
1-12     Pi Sorority; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Holly earned the title of Miss San Antonio U.S.A.,
1-14     advanced to the state pageant, and was named third runner-up
1-15     at the Miss U.S.A. pageant; she was crowned Miss Texas U.S.A.
1-16     out of a group of 125 women who were competing for the title;
1-17     and
1-18           WHEREAS, Holly represented the citizens of Texas with
1-19     professionalism and embraced her new responsibilities with
1-20     dedication and tenacity; she travelled more than 100,000 miles
 2-1     in 14 months as a spokesperson for Texas, the most miles logged
 2-2     by anyone during a Miss Texas U.S.A. term; during her travels,
 2-3     she focused on being a positive influence on those she met and
 2-4     on serving the people of Texas and the pageant's sponsors; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, A talented orator, Holly has been sought after
 2-6     to address corporate and convention audiences and to speak
 2-7     at schools and universities throughout Texas; during her
 2-8     tenure as Miss Texas U.S.A., she was invited by former
 2-9     President George Bush to be a guest presenter at the America's
2-10     Promise Summit in Houston; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Holly has been active in a number of charitable
2-12     causes and has given her enthusiastic support to such
2-13     organizations as the American Heart Association, Ronald McDonald
2-14     House, American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, and the
2-15     D.A.R.E. Program, which honored her as the 1998 D.A.R.E.
2-16     Volunteer of the Year; and
2-17           WHEREAS, While serving as Miss Texas U.S.A., she hosted
2-18     and cohosted pageants, award shows, and television programs;
2-19     she appeared in several television commercials and programs,
2-20     including the popular CBS series "Nash Bridges"; and
2-21           WHEREAS, Intelligent, hardworking, and goal-oriented, Holly
2-22     has now embarked on a career in a sales and marketing position
2-23     with Blythe-Nelson, a management services and systems engineering
2-24     firm in Austin; and
 3-1           WHEREAS, Holly is an exemplary young woman of style, grace,
 3-2     charm, and beauty whose intelligence and notable achievements have
 3-3     brought honor to her family and her community and whose dedication
 3-4     to her fellowman and hard work have made her a treasured citizen
 3-5     of our state; now, therefore, be it
 3-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 3-7     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Holly Mills on her many
 3-8     accomplishments during her reign as Miss Texas U.S.A. 1998 and
 3-9     extend best wishes to her for continued success in the future;
3-10     and, be it further
3-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3-12     her as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate.
