 1-4                                     of
 1-5                                Doug Calmelet
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Baytown in mourning the loss of Doug Calmelet, who died
 1-8     April 24, 1999, on the battlefield of San Jacinto State Historical
 1-9     Park; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Doug attended Texas A&M University, graduating with
1-11     bachelor of science degrees in construction and sociology in 1972;
1-12     he was an enthusiastic member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Band; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. Calmelet worked as vice president of Medix
1-14     Healthcare Construction Company; and
1-15           WHEREAS, A well-known lover of Texas history, Mr. Calmelet
1-16     was enthusiastically involved in many living history associations,
1-17     including the San Jacinto Volunteers, the San Antonio Living
1-18     History Association, and the Crossroads of Texas Living History
1-19     Association; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Devoted to the preservation of Texas history, he
 2-2     was a committee member of the San Jacinto Volunteers, where he was
 2-3     Mexican Military Camp Coordinator for many years; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, One of the original members of the New Orleans
 2-5     Greys Company formed by the San Antonio Living History Association,
 2-6     Mr. Calmelet was active in the interpretation of the Texian soldier,
 2-7     where he presented historical information on little-known characters
 2-8     of the Texas Revolution; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Becoming an expert on what life was like for the
2-10     Mexican Army in 1836, Doug used his talents for woodworking to
2-11     reconstruct a replica of Santa Anna's tent; and
2-12           WHEREAS, With his passion for history, he was already working
2-13     on his project for the San Jacinto Living History annual event for
2-14     the year 2000; he was going to restore an oxcart for use in the
2-15     Mexican Military Camp, since his dream was to portray accurately
2-16     the lifestyles of all social classes involved in the Mexican Army;
2-17     and
2-18           WHEREAS, Doug Calmelet's endless hours of work relating to
2-19     the preservation of Texas history have been responsible for the
2-20     education of both young and old throughout Texas; and
2-21           WHEREAS, Doug Calmelet was a devoted husband and son, and
2-22     he leaves memories which will be treasured by his family and many
2-23     friends; now, therefore, be it
 3-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 3-2     76th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the
 3-3     members of his family:  his wife, Roxanne Clarke Calmelet; his
 3-4     parents, Doug Calmelet, Sr., and Dorothy Calmelet; and his brothers,
 3-5     Brian Calmelet and Rene Calmelet; and, be it further
 3-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 3-7     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
 3-8     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
 3-9     in memory of Doug Calmelet.
