1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1008
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-3     recognizing State Representative Harryette Ehrhardt on recently
 1-4     being selected by the American Jewish Congress as a recipient of
 1-5     the Women of Spirit Award; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The 80-year-old American Jewish Congress dedicates
 1-7     itself to protecting the mainstays of a healthy democracy,
 1-8     including social and economic justice, religious freedom, and
 1-9     human rights; in promoting these causes, the organization hopes to
1-10     ensure the well-being of Jewish communities at home and abroad; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The American Jewish Congress Southwest Region's
1-12     Commission for Women's Equality presents its award to women who have
1-13     diligently pursued social justice through grassroots efforts; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The Honorable Harryette Ehrhardt was born in
1-15     Hattiesburg, Mississippi; she received her bachelor of science
1-16     and master of arts degrees from Southern Methodist University
1-17     with distinction and earned a doctorate in education from the
1-18     University of Houston; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Always a civic-minded citizen, Harryette served
1-20     as chair of both the Dallas and Texas women's political caucuses
1-21     before being elected to her current office; she has also been a
1-22     delegate to Democratic state conventions and served in an advisory
1-23     capacity for many local, state, and national candidates; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, As State Representative from Dallas District 107,
 2-2     Harryette currently serves as a member of the Financial Institutions
 2-3     and Urban Affairs Committees; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Harryette and her husband, Dr. John Ehrhardt,
 2-5     have lived in East Dallas for more than 25 years and are
 2-6     active in the Episcopal Church; they have five children and
 2-7     seven grandchildren; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Harryette works
 2-9     diligently for her fellow Texans; her work, which is congruent
2-10     with the goals of the American Jewish Congress, has helped
2-11     improve the quality of life in Texas; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, congratulate the Honorable Harryette Ehrhardt
2-14     on being awarded the Women of Spirit Award; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-16     her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
