1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1022
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Susan G. Komen Breast Center, located on the
 1-3     campus of Baylor University Medical Center, benefits thousands of
 1-4     Texans every year, and it is most appropriate that the members of
 1-5     this chamber recognize this leader in the prevention and treatment
 1-6     of breast cancer; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Since 1984, the Susan G. Komen Breast Center has
 1-8     pioneered diagnostic techniques that can detect breast cancer
 1-9     in its earliest stages; it was the first mammography facility in
1-10     Dallas to offer a risk analysis program as well as a breast imaging
1-11     specific fellowship program, and it is a leader in offering patient
1-12     education in breast self-examination, producing an educational
1-13     video in conjunction with Baylor University Medical Center that
1-14     contains captions for the hearing impaired; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Diagnostic imaging services provided range from
1-16     screening mammography to stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsy,
1-17     and in 1998 alone, approximately 45,000 procedures were performed
1-18     at the center; in addition, extended and Saturday hours are
1-19     available to patients and two mobile mammography units have also
1-20     enabled women throughout the North Texas area to gain easier access
1-21     to the center's high-tech services; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Dr. Phil Evans, the medical director of the facility,
1-23     leads a staff of highly trained professionals who are committed
 2-1     to the center's goals, and the institution also participates in
 2-2     research studies in an effort to continually improve breast imaging
 2-3     technology; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, The Susan G. Komen Breast Center is dedicated to
 2-5     winning the battle against breast cancer by providing comprehensive
 2-6     information and assistance to women in the Lone Star State, and its
 2-7     efforts are indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be
 2-8     it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     76th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Phil Evans and the staff of
2-11     the Susan G. Komen Breast Center for their exemplary efforts to
2-12     offer the highest level of care available today in the prevention
2-13     and treatment of breast cancer; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-15     prepared for prominent display at the Susan G. Komen Breast Center
2-16     as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
