1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1024 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize Little River Baptist Church of Jones Prairie, Texas, 1-4 on the grand occasion of its 150th anniversary, which is being 1-5 celebrated June 26 and 27, 1999; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Listed as one of the oldest churches in Texas, 1-7 Little River Baptist Church was organized in the wilderness at 1-8 the home of Josiah Lester in 1849; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The church has endured over a century of tremendous 1-10 changes in the world, yet it remains a citadel of the Baptist faith 1-11 with a devoted congregation; and 1-12 WHEREAS, This historic church has been a sacred sanctuary 1-13 in the area for fifteen decades, providing a refuge of worship for 1-14 this farming community; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Proud of their heritage, the congregation continues 1-16 to be a group of loving, caring Christians who are committed to the 1-17 church's mission in the world; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Little River Baptist Church has been a source 1-19 of comfort and hope in times of great distress and a place of 1-20 fellowship for those who have come to worship over the years; 1-21 now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 76th Legislature, hereby recognize Little River Baptist Church on 2-3 the momentous occasion of its 150th anniversary and congratulate 2-4 the congregation on this special day in the life of the church; 2-5 and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 2-7 expression of the high esteem of the Texas Senate and as a memento 2-8 of this blessed day. 2-9 Ogden 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 President of the Senate 2-12 I hereby certify that the above 2-13 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-14 on May 20, 1999. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate
