1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1031 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Roberto Celestino Villanueva 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-6 citizens of Austin and the Rio Grande Valley in mourning the loss 1-7 of Roberto Celestino Villanueva, who died April 28, 1999, at the 1-8 age of 74; and 1-9 WHEREAS, This highly respected member of the media 1-10 spent a good portion of his life disseminating information to 1-11 Spanish-speaking audiences, and his death is a great loss to the 1-12 Hispanic community; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A native of Mercedes, Mr. Villanueva was born to 1-14 immigrants from Mexico who knew the importance of being bilingual; 1-15 every summer the family visited relatives in Mexico to ensure the 1-16 children would be fluent in Spanish and English; and 1-17 WHEREAS, While attending The University of Texas, he 1-18 began a career in radio and later expanded into television; in 1-19 his 30 years of broadcasting, Mr. Villanueva became known as 1-20 "El Gallito Madrugador" and appealed to audiences in Dallas, 1-21 Austin, the Rio Grande Valley, and Europe; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Roberto Villanueva was a devoted husband, father, 2-1 and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be 2-2 treasured forever by his family and friends; now, therefore, 2-3 be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family 2-6 of Roberto Celestino Villanueva: his wife, Maria Christina; his 2-7 children, Robert, Christopher, Anne Marie, and Regina Marie; and 2-8 his three grandchildren; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-10 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 2-11 the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 2-12 do so in memory of Roberto Villanueva. 2-13 Barrientos 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on May 20, 1999, by a rising vote. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
