1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1058
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-3     congratulate the varsity members of the Anderson High School
 1-4     Physics Team, who recently placed first in the nation in the Tests
 1-5     of Engineering Aptitude, Math and Science (TEAMS) competition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The tests present high school students with a
 1-7     valuable opportunity to exercise their quantitative talents; the
 1-8     competition's unique emphasis on real-world problem solving allows
 1-9     students to collaborate in teams and to use all resources necessary
1-10     to complete each task; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Anderson High's varsity team members worked
1-12     especially hard to excel in this year's competition, as they were
1-13     endeavoring to repeat the previous year's national victory; and
1-14           WHEREAS, To be evaluated at the national level, the varsity
1-15     team placed first in both regional and state competitions; their
1-16     challenge consisted of 100 multiple choice questions, 10 free
1-17     response questions, and five essays; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Essential to the students' success was their coach,
1-19     Dee Willars, who provided valued counsel and ample encouragement
1-20     to the team; and
1-21           WHEREAS, As the tests are quite challenging, it is indeed
1-22     an honor for the State of Texas to have its bright young citizens
1-23     achieve national distinction; the Senate celebrates the success of
 2-1     the Anderson High students; their exceptional intelligence will
 2-2     ensure them a bright future; now, therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-4     76th Legislature, hereby commend the team of Nicolas Pena,
 2-5     Bryan Klingner, Jacob Ferris, Erin Fonken, Jakob Anderson,
 2-6     Stacy Tsai, Ann Ligai, and Matthew Fox on placing first in the
 2-7     nation on the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Math and Science
 2-8     competition; and, be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be presented to
2-10     this outstanding team as an expression of high regard from the
2-11     Texas Senate.
