 1-4                                     of
 1-5                           Charles Edward Crenshaw
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Austin and the whole State of Texas in mourning the loss of
 1-8     Charles Edward Crenshaw, who died May 10, 1999, at the age of 85;
 1-9     and
1-10           WHEREAS, He was born in Andalusia, Alabama, on August 29, 1913,
1-11     to Bonnie Riley "Mimi" and Allen "Colonel" Crenshaw; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Charlie was an excellent athlete and played freshman
1-13     football at the University of Alabama; in his sophomore year, he
1-14     transferred to Baylor University, where he played golf, football,
1-15     and baseball; he reached all-conference status in baseball as a
1-16     catcher; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Charlie Crenshaw graduated with a law degree from
1-18     Baylor and entered the legal profession in Houston; there he met
1-19     his beloved Pearl and they were married in 1940; they became the
1-20     loving parents of three children, Charlie, Ben, and Bonnie; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Soon after his marriage to Pearl, he enlisted in
 2-2     the United States Navy, serving as a lieutenant during World War II;
 2-3     and
 2-4           WHEREAS, After his service to his country, Mr. Crenshaw
 2-5     joined the attorney general's office during Governor Price Daniel's
 2-6     administration, subsequently entering private practice and
 2-7     representing many companies before the Texas Legislature; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Pearl predeceased him in 1974, and he later married
 2-9     Roberta, with whom he shared a loving union for over 23 years; and
2-10           WHEREAS, A civic-minded man, he loved Austin and served
2-11     on the board of the West Austin Optimist Little League, where he
2-12     coached his sons and their friends; he was a Deacon at the First
2-13     Baptist Church and taught Sunday school at the Downtown Men's Bible
2-14     Class; he was also a member of the Shriners and of the Loyal Order
2-15     of Jesters; and
2-16           WHEREAS, Charlie Crenshaw was a devoted husband, father,
2-17     grandfather, and great-grandfather, and the memories of his warmth
2-18     and generosity will be treasured by his family and many friends;
2-19     now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-22     members of his family:  his wife, Roberta; his children,
2-23     Bonnie Boorman, Charlie Crenshaw, and Ben Crenshaw; his
 3-1     stepdaughters, Roberta Burns and Lucy Hibberd; his nine
 3-2     grandchildren; his three stepgrandchildren; and his two
 3-3     step-great-grandchildren; and, be it further
 3-4           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
 3-5     for the family as an expression of the deepest sympathy of the
 3-6     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
 3-7     so in memory of Charles Edward Crenshaw.
