 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1093
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize J. D. Hall for his 21 years of dedicated service as
 1-5     a trustee of the Dallas County Community College District; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, Mr. Hall has contributed
 1-7     to the education of the young people of Dallas County by serving
 1-8     as a trustee for the community college district as well as a
 1-9     teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent for the
1-10     Lancaster public schools; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Believing in equal access for all students,
1-12     Mr. Hall took a hands-on approach at every level of his career,
1-13     giving special consideration to students with disadvantaged
1-14     backgrounds; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Hall received his bachelor of arts degree
1-16     from Bishop College, a master's degree in education from
1-17     Texas Southern University, and an honorary doctorate from
1-18     Paul Quinn College; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Elected to the Board of Trustees of the Dallas County
1-20     Community College District on May 16, 1978, Mr. Hall has served as
1-21     vice chairman of the board since 1988; and
1-22           WHEREAS, A concerned and active member of the community,
1-23     Mr. Hall has donated his time and talents as a board member of the
 2-1     Dallas Chapter of the American Red Cross, Dallas County Manpower,
 2-2     and Dallas Urban League; a former campaign chair for the Young
 2-3     Women's Christian Association, Mr. Hall has been a member of
 2-4     Black Dallas Remembered and the Texas State Teachers Association;
 2-5     and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Honorary Founder of the annual "Do the Bright Thing"
 2-7     community project, he was the recipient of the Dallas Urban League's
 2-8     Whitney Award in 1998; he received Man of the Year and the Elite
 2-9     News' 23rd Annual News Award in 1998; he earned the KKDA/Coca-Cola
2-10     African American Heroes award in 1997; Bishop College recognized
2-11     him with the Appreciation for Sincere Service and Devotion award;
2-12     and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in Marshall, Texas; and
2-13           WHEREAS, Throughout his long and productive career, Mr. Hall
2-14     carried out his duties with integrity and fairness, and through his
2-15     devotion and dedication he has contributed immeasurably to the
2-16     progressive development of the educational system of Dallas County;
2-17     now, therefore, be it
2-18           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-19     76th Legislature, hereby commend J. D. Hall for his lifelong
2-20     dedication to his profession and express its appreciation to him
2-21     for his many contributions to the young people of Dallas County;
2-22     and, be it further
2-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-24     as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
