1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1115
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to pay
 1-3     tribute to the late James M. Shelton, who was recently inducted
 1-4     into the El Paso Business Hall of Fame; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The El Paso Business Hall of Fame celebrates
 1-6     individuals who have contributed to the advancement of business
 1-7     and economic and civic development in the city; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The individuals are selected by a group of business
 1-9     leaders for their entrepreneurial spirit, business activities, and
1-10     contributions to the community; and
1-11           WHEREAS, James Shelton began his career by delivering
1-12     building materials to home builders in 1950; he later purchased
1-13     El Paso Sand and Gravel, which became the largest supplier of
1-14     concrete and aggregate in the area; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Shelton consistently strived to maintain
1-16     efficiency and excellence in all areas of his company's operations,
1-17     and under his guidance, El Paso Sand and Gravel provided first-rate
1-18     service to area citizens; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Mr. Shelton was a well-known civic leader and was
1-20     active in a number of organizations and community projects; and
1-21           WHEREAS, James Shelton was an exemplary gentleman and a
1-22     well-liked, successful businessman, and his company has played
1-23     a role in helping to stimulate our state's economy, provide
 2-1     employment opportunities, and create healthy competition; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Mr. Shelton and the other inductees of the El Paso
 2-3     Business Hall of Fame were honored at a banquet hosted by Junior
 2-4     Achievement, the nonprofit economic education organization that
 2-5     sends business consultants to classrooms; this year's banquet,
 2-6     which serves as a major fundraiser for Junior Achievement, took
 2-7     place May 13 at the El Paso Marriott; Mr. Shelton's daughter and
 2-8     son, Carroll Shelton-Maxon and James M. Shelton, Jr., accepted the
 2-9     induction on behalf of their father; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of James M. Shelton
2-12     and express appreciation for his highly successful career and his
2-13     many contributions to the El Paso community; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-15     for Mr. Shelton's family as an expression of esteem from the
2-16     Texas Senate.
