 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1116
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing Gerald Rubin on his recent induction into the El Paso
 1-5     Business Hall of Fame; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The El Paso Business Hall of Fame celebrates
 1-7     individuals who have contributed to the advancement of business,
 1-8     economic, and civic development in the city; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The individuals are selected by a group of business
1-10     leaders for their entrepreneurial spirit, business activities, and
1-11     contributions to the community; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Gerald Rubin earned a degree in biology from
1-13     Texas Western College, now The University of Texas at El Paso, and
1-14     founded a personal care products company, Helen of Troy, in 1968;
1-15     his company now employs 600 people, 500 of whom are located in
1-16     El Paso; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Mr. Rubin consistently strives to maintain efficiency
1-18     and excellence in all areas of his company's operations, and due to
1-19     his expertise and guidance, his company provides first-rate products
1-20     and service; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Mr. Rubin is a well-known civic leader and is active
1-22     in a number of organizations and community projects; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Mr. Rubin is a highly
 2-2     successful entrepreneur whose company plays a role in helping to
 2-3     stimulate our state's economy, provide employment opportunities,
 2-4     and create healthy competition; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Mr. Rubin and the other inductees of the El Paso
 2-6     Business Hall of Fame have been honored at a banquet hosted by
 2-7     Junior Achievement, the nonprofit economic education organization
 2-8     that sends business consultants to classrooms; this year's banquet,
 2-9     which serves as a major fundraiser for Junior Achievement, took
2-10     place May 13 at the El Paso Marriott; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby commend Gerald Rubin on his highly
2-13     successful career and his many contributions to the El Paso
2-14     community; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-16     Gerald Rubin as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
