1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1118
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-3     recognizing Jim Phillips on his recent induction into the El Paso
 1-4     Business Hall of Fame; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The El Paso Business Hall of Fame celebrates
 1-6     individuals who have contributed to the advancement of business
 1-7     and economic and civic development in the city; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The individuals are selected by a group of business
 1-9     leaders for their entrepreneurial spirit, business activities, and
1-10     contributions to the community; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Jim Phillips serves as chairman of the Community
1-12     Board of Directors for Norwest Bank El Paso; from 1969 to 1989,
1-13     he was chairman and chief executive officer of KHEY radio in
1-14     El Paso; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Phillips consistently strives to maintain
1-16     efficiency and excellence in all areas of his bank's operations,
1-17     and under his guidance, Norwest Bank El Paso has provided
1-18     first-rate service to area citizens; Norwest Bank El Paso is a
1-19     prominent institution in the city, helping to stimulate our
1-20     state's economy, provide employment opportunities, and create
1-21     healthy competition; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Mr. Phillips is a well-known civic leader and is
1-23     active in a number of organizations and community projects; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Mr. Phillips and the other inductees of the El Paso
 2-1     Business Hall of Fame were honored at a banquet hosted by Junior
 2-2     Achievement, the nonprofit economic education organization that
 2-3     sends business consultants to classrooms; the banquet, which
 2-4     serves as a major fundraiser for Junior Achievement, took place
 2-5     May 13 at the El Paso Marriott; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Jim Phillips is an exemplary gentleman and a
 2-7     well-liked, successful businessman; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-9     76th Legislature, hereby commend Jim Phillips on his highly
2-10     successful career and his many contributions to the El Paso
2-11     community; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-13     Jim Phillips as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
