1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1120
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-3     recognize Commander William J. Woodward on the momentous occasion
 1-4     of his retirement after 11 years with Socorro High School and the
 1-5     Naval Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, As a member of the faculty, this highly decorated
 1-7     Navy veteran has earned accolades for his diligence and dedication
 1-8     to the young people with whom he worked; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A native of La Jara, Colorado, William Woodward
1-10     enlisted in the United States Navy upon graduation from high
1-11     school and was released from active duty in 1957; after
1-12     receiving his bachelor of arts degree from Adams State College
1-13     in Alamosa, Colorado, he returned to the Navy for numerous
1-14     assignments; and
1-15           WHEREAS, After three tours of duty in Vietnam, his personal
1-16     decorations and recognitions included 294 Combat Missions, four
1-17     Distinguished Flying Crosses, 28 Air Medals, three Navy Commendation
1-18     Medals with the combat device, China Service Medal, Vietnam Service
1-19     and Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross; and
1-20           WHEREAS, In his 11 years as part of the faculty of Socorro
1-21     High School, Commander Woodward was honored as teacher of the month
1-22     several times and named one of the top 10 High School Teachers
1-23     in Texas in 1996; only four El Pasoans have ever received this
 2-1     distinction; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Commander Woodward is a dedicated teacher and
 2-3     exemplary Naval pilot, and his retirement is certainly a loss for
 2-4     Socorro High School and the Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training
 2-5     Corps program; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     76th Legislature, hereby recognize Commander William J. Woodward
 2-8     for his outstanding service to his country and the young people of
 2-9     Texas; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-11     as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
