 1-3                                  In Memory
 1-4                                     of
 1-5                          Robert Shoemaker Crowell
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of El Paso in mourning the loss of Robert Shoemaker Crowell, who
 1-8     died May 4, 1999, at the age of 81; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Bob Crowell was the son of Mary Shoemaker Crowell,
1-10     who was from a pioneering family in Silver City, New Mexico; his
1-11     father, Douglas C. Crowell, opened the first Cadillac dealership
1-12     in El Paso in 1909 and later opened the D. C. Crowell and Company
1-13     Insurance Agency in 1910; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Bob Crowell graduated from El Paso High School in
1-15     1930 and from The University of Texas at Austin in 1934; he joined
1-16     D. C. Crowell and Company, which later became Echlin Irvin Crowell
1-17     and Company; he served in the United States Army during World War II;
1-18     and
1-19           WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Bob Crowell was respected
1-20     for his many accomplishments and his leadership in the community;
 2-1     and
 2-2           WHEREAS, He was a lifelong member of CPCU, Sigma Alpha
 2-3     Epsilon Fraternity, and Los Caballeros; he was a supporter of
 2-4     the El Paso Young Men's Christian Association, the El Paso
 2-5     Historical Society, the El Paso Symphony Association, and
 2-6     The University of Texas Exes; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
 2-8     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
 2-9     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
2-10           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, he was a member of Saint Clement's
2-11     Episcopal Church; and
2-12           WHEREAS, Bob was preceded in death by his wife,
2-13     Nancy Kitson Crowell, and his sister, Catherine Crowell Belk; and
2-14           WHEREAS, Bob Crowell was a devoted husband, father, and
2-15     grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
2-16     forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-18     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-19     bereaved family of Robert Shoemaker Crowell:  his daughters,
2-20     Meredith Crowell, Kitson C. Graham, and Catherine C. Cagle;
2-21     his sons, Douglas C. Crowell and Duncan M. Crowell; his sister,
2-22     Elizabeth Mead; and his grandchildren; and, be it further
2-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 3-1     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
 3-2     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
 3-3     so in memory of Bob Crowell.
