1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1132
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-3     recognize the members of the Crockett Colored High/Ralph J. Bunche
 1-4     High School Alumni, Ex-Students, and Teachers Association; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Crockett Colored High School became Ralph J. Bunche
 1-6     High School in 1952, and in 1965, due to integration, the school
 1-7     merged with the previously all-white Crockett High School, the name
 1-8     the school retains today; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The members of the Crockett Colored
1-10     High/Ralph J. Bunche High School Alumni, Ex-Students, and
1-11     Teachers Association either graduated or left school prior to
1-12     integration, and the vast majority now live in Houston, Dallas,
1-13     and other Texas cities; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The association members have maintained communication
1-15     and a close relationship over the years and hold triannual school
1-16     reunions; previously, the reunions were held in Crockett, but this
1-17     year the reunion will take place in Houston, where most of the
1-18     members live; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The reunion is being hosted by the association's
1-20     Houston Chapter July 9 through 11, 1999, and will consist of a
1-21     number of activities and events, including a picnic, banquet, and
1-22     dance; and
1-23           WHEREAS, This reunion is an opportunity for the association
 2-1     members to reminisce about the many high school adventures they
 2-2     shared and the reunion activities of years past; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, In gathering together at these triannual reunions,
 2-4     the association members are expressing their longtime commitment
 2-5     to their school and to tradition, unity, and loyal friendship; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, The association intends to establish a scholarship
 2-7     fund for high school graduates who meet the required academic
 2-8     standards; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     76th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the association
2-11     on their loyalty to their school and to one another and on their
2-12     humanitarian goals and extend best wishes to them for a joyous 1999
2-13     reunion in Houston; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them
2-15     as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate.
