 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1139
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize the winners of the 1998-1999 Keep Texas Beautiful
 1-5     Governor's Community Achievement Awards; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The winners in the nine different population
 1-7     categories are:  Austin, Waco, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Greenville,
 1-8     Taylor, Whitehouse, Muenster, and Quintana; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The first-place cities were among a group of 54
1-10     entrants and 69 applicants from the various population groups;
1-11     the winners will share $1 million in landscaping projects awarded
1-12     by the Texas Department of Transportation; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Co-sponsor of the Governor's Awards, the Texas
1-14     Department of Transportation has participated in the program since
1-15     1985; the program has been supported by the Governor of Texas since
1-16     1967; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Recognizing communities for their grassroots
1-18     endeavors in beautification, this awards program encourages local
1-19     environmental improvement through litter prevention, solid waste
1-20     management, recycling, public education, and litter law enforcement;
1-21     and
1-22           WHEREAS, The awards will be presented and all applicant
 2-1     communities will be recognized at a luncheon to be held July 2, 1999,
 2-2     during the 32nd Annual Keep Texas Beautiful Convention in Austin;
 2-3     now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the cities of Austin, Waco,
 2-6     Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Greenville, Taylor, Whitehouse, Muenster, and
 2-7     Quintana for winning the 1998-1999 Keep Texas Beautiful Awards; and,
 2-8     be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-10     expression of high regard and esteem from the Texas Senate.
