1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1142 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is happy to 1-3 recognize the 98th birthday of Gladys Harrington; this beloved 1-4 woman has dedicated a lifetime of energy and enthusiasm to her 1-5 community in steadfast pursuit of its betterment; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born in Paris, Texas, on May 29, 1901, Gladys 1-7 graduated from Plano High School in 1919 and married 1-8 Frederick Joseph Harrington; Mr. and Mrs. Harrington raised 1-9 two sons, Conner and Joe; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A grand lady of varied interests and myriad talents, 1-11 Gladys Harrington is more than impressive; a particular passion 1-12 of Mrs. Harrington's is politics; she has served as president of 1-13 the Plano Republican Women's Club and attended countless Republican 1-14 conventions; her responsible devotion to public service and good 1-15 government is an example to us all; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mrs. Harrington has long been a pillar of her 1-17 community; in addition to her political work, she served on the 1-18 Plano Public Library Board for 13 years and was honored to have 1-19 the first permanent library building named after her; her 1-20 membership in the Plano Heritage Association and the Fine Arts 1-21 League of Plano are but two examples of her many civic-minded 1-22 endeavors; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Her spiritual life is of supreme importance to 1-24 Mrs. Harrington; a member of the First Christian Church of 2-1 Plano, she has served the church in numerous capacities; and 2-2 WHEREAS, In her spare time, Mrs. Harrington has distinguished 2-3 herself as a talented gardener, world traveler, philatelist, 2-4 scrap book creator, and patron of the arts; she even designed 2-5 her own home; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mrs. Harrington is clearly a woman with great zeal 2-7 for life; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations to 2-10 Gladys Harrington on the occasion of her 98th birthday and wish 2-11 her happy, healthy years to come; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-13 Mrs. Harrington as an expression of high regard from the 2-14 Texas Senate. 2-15 Shapiro 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the above 2-19 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-20 on May 26, 1999. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
